Land area units used in Pakistan
Land in Pakistan is measured in traditional units — kanal, marla and sarsai — alongside metric and imperial units such as square feet, square yards, square metres and acres. These units appear on every Fard, registry and sale deed, so converting between them accurately matters when you buy, sell or divide land.
The core relationships are fixed: 1 Kanal = 20 Marla, and 8 Kanal ≈ 1 Acre. The marla itself varies slightly by region (explained below). This converter works in every direction — for example marla to square feet, kanal to acre, or square yards to marla.
Marla: 272 vs 225 square feet
There are two common standards for a marla. In most of Punjab, 1 Marla = 272.25 square feet (often rounded to 272) — the “big” marla. In parts of Sindh, KPK and many private housing societies, 1 Marla = 225 square feet. Using the wrong standard can change an area by nearly 20%, so this tool lets you switch between 272 and 225 to match your local record.
